2009 BMW 135I Project Car. More details to come!
After driving this car for a few weeks, we decided that it was in desperate need of a suspension upgrade. The factory BMW suspension is comfortable and sporty, but the handling leaves a lot to be desired. We were also interested in lowering the car to enhance the look.
We debated over several options from different suspension manufacturers. We worked with our friends at H&R to come up with the best solution for our needs. A Cup Kit was discussed, but we decided we would rather have the ablity to adjust the height. This way we can make changes as the car progresses, and as wheels are changed.
We decided on the H&R Premium Performance Coil Overs. This gallery shows some images of the installation process. The car handles the bumps with ease. It slightly softer over bumps than the factory susupension, but has less body roll and a tighter feel. These coil overs are also 30% lighter in weight than the factory suspension, so they also reduce the unspring weight in the car for better performance.
BMW designed the 1-Series wheels with very conservative offsets. This makes it rather difficult for customers to find attractive aftermarket wheel options. Our friends at VMR Wheels have come up with a solution. VMR's V705 wheels offer a nice understated 5-Spoke option, and it is finally available in 1 Series Fitment! So you do not have to worry about your tires rubbing the fenders (at stock ride height) or finding the correct size spacer to make your wheels fit. We are very excited to offer this new set, and these pictures are of the very first set that shipped out in the United States. We installed this set on our 135I with a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires.
