We are able to offer in-house ECU upgrades for many of today's BMW vehicles through the OBD2 diagnostic port. The ability to perform the programming in-house eliminates the need to remove the ECU from the vehicle and have it inoperable for three days while the ECU is overnighted back and forth to a tuner/programmer. In addition, newer BMW models require all re-programming to be performed with the ECU in place to communicate with the systems network in the vehicle.
The process starts with a test-drive to ensure the vehicle is functioning properly. The programming device is then hooked up to the vehicle's OBD2 diagnostic port and a copy of the vehicle's stock software programming file is extracted and saved on our hard-drive for safe keeping. The file extraction can be done while you wait and typically is completed in less than one hour. Once we have a copy of the file, the vehicle can continue to be driven as normal as we have the custom programming written.
The stock programming file is then sent to the programmer to be modified for increased performance. In addition to this, the VIN# and flash counts are adjusted to make sure the programming integrates seamlessly with all the factory settings. The upgraded programming file is returned to us in as little as 30 minutes but can take up to 24 hours based on the complexity of the file and programming schedule.
The upgraded programming is then ready to be loaded onto the vehicle's ECU. The read/write process is repeated from the stock file extraction and is usually completed while you wait, in less than an hour. A follow-up test-drive is completed and the car is released with its newly enhanced ECU programming.
+ Important note is that new model BMW's have a "break-in" mode on brand new cars. This mode is programmed into the vehicle so that the vehicle is allowed to break-in for the first 1,200 miles. Once the mileage is reached, BMW will reprogram the vehicle with the standard software program. Vehicle's with performance software upgrades may have to have the upgraded software reloaded after this dealer reflash.
