First, we drive the vehicle around the block to ensure that all components are operating properly and that there are no issues that need to be addressed prior to performing an upgrade. The car is then pulled in the shop and in this case, we put it on the lift for the shifter install. The under-pans have to be removed as well as the heat-shield. The factory shifter bracket is removed and replaced with the Stratmosphere one. Once replaced, we adjust the shifter and manually go through the gears on the lift and tighten everything to recommended torque spec with a digital torque wrench. The next step is to remove the car from the lift and perform a road test. This will put actual load on the drive-train and allows us to ensure proper alignment during driving. Once the install passes the road test, we return to the shop and put the car back on the lift, re-install the heat shield and under-pans and the car is presented to the client. However, some B8's have required another round of adjustment to make it just right, especially the longer throws like 6th and reverse.
